Cathy's Corner

Last month I went to the Massachusetts Human Rights Conference.  I have been to several human rights conferences over the past few years, but this was the largest one that I have attended. I had a great time! I got a chance to talk with people that I know and made some new friends.
I got to eat lunch with many other people from Berkshire County including my citizen advocate Debbie. The food was very good. One thing that made the lunch difficult, however, was that there were so many tables and chairs in the ballroom and there was not a lot of space for my wheelchair to get by. Most people were nice about moving chairs and helping out, but some were not as helpful. I suppose that being in that size group is always a challenge.
I went to a terrific workshop called RESPECT. It was lead by people with disabilities who were teaching us about how to advocate for ourselves. It was great to learn about how other people have handled challenges that have come up in their lives.
