On February 2, 2006 Berkshire County Arc, with assistance from Health New England, sponsored its first Employee Health Fair to educate staff about how healthy life habits may lead to a better quality of life.
BCARC encouraged all staff to participate in a variety of screenings including blood glucose cholesterol, body fat and blood pressure. Technicians from Health New England performed the health screenings.
BCARC’s newly formed Wellness Committee provided a large selection of healthy snacks for the event. Pamphlets on healthy eating, diabetes, asthma, cardiac health and smoking cessation were also available.

involved in their health care decisions. There are a number of programs available to staff through our insurance carrier to promote preventative care and overall wellness which should lead to healthier and improved lifestyles."
One new program available to BCARC employees is the “Work-Life Balance” Employee Assistance Program. The program offers a 24-hour free hotline for staff seeking assistance and support with issues including child care, finding an apartment, budgeting, therapies for personal issues, as well as legal and credit advice.
The BCARC Wellness Committee will be working hard in the coming months to promote this commitment that the agency has to its employees. Updates on the walking program will be available in future issues of Visions.
