| Dr. Donald Fairbanks is a respected
and well-known local podiatrist and also the dedicated Vice President of
Berkshire County Arc’s Board of Directors. After completing medical
school and an internship in Chicago, he and his family settled in Berkshire
County where he began his medical practice. That was nearly 30 years ago.
Through his personal friendship with Joyce Desgroseilliers, a current
Board member (see Visions, Summer 1997 edition) and a long time BCARC staff
member, Donald became involved in the Human Rights Committee. Although
his knowledge and experience about the problems that a human service agency
confronts on a daily basis was limited, it was soon apparent that he had
a natural sensitivity to the issues.

“The agency, under the present leadership,
with the direction of a dynamic board and with the support of dedicated
staff is in a forward motion.”

His medical expertise was often utilized to help determine an appropriate
coarse of action for an individual. After serving for eleven years on the
Human Rights Committee, Donald decided it was time for a change. Still
very committed to the Arc’s mission, he joined the Board of Directors.
Dr. Fairbanks has been a Board member for two years and is the current
vice president. What is his vision for Berkshire County Arc?
