The Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission honored businesses and workers at their National Mentor Day Awards on October 18, 2001. The winner of the Advocate Achievement Award was Joan Hobart, Employment Specialist in the AEN program at Berkshire County Arc. Nominees for this award are individuals who have made outstanding achievements in promoting inclusive opportunities for people with disabilities. person launched into the world of work. She was nominated by John Keegan, Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with Mass Rehab. There they jokingly refer to Joan as "Saint Joan of BCARC". This name clearly reflects how John and others feel about the great work that Joan does. This award ceremony also recognized local employers for hiring people with disabilities and workers for assisting these people in finding meaningful employment. We are very proud to have Joan working for BCARC and feel that her Achievement Award is well deserved.

Ken was nominated by Dr. Mark Pettus, the board president of BCARC, and Leo Sarkissian, Executive Director of Massachusetts Arc. Gerald J. Morrissey Jr., commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Mental Retardation and Grace Healey, Executive Director of the Association of Development Disabilities Providers, also supported Ken's nomination.
