An Evening with the Pittsfield Astros

CATHY'S CORNER

As I thought about what I was going to write about for my column this month, I decided to give an update on the Regional Self-Advocacy meetings that I attend monthly in Northampton. As one member of the Southern Berkshire Self-Advocacy Group representated at the meetings, I have had opportunities to share my thoughts about current issues.
Recently, we have discussed the importance of flu shots and also have shared successes that some of our members have had at the Summer Special Olympics.
But one thing that concerns me is traveling to Northampton during the winter months. I think that since many members of this group travel a long way to the meetings, each group should have an opportunity to host the regional meeting at their regular meeting place. I would like my friends in Northampton to see where I meet with my friends in Lee every month.

As always, one of the many highlights of the summer is the annual  Evening with the Astros in Wahconah Park, held this yearon July 7th.
Many individuals, families and staff enjoyed a picnic of hotdogs and hamburgers before the game.
   Astro players circulated

through the crowd posing for pictures and shaking hands with many individuals.
The night was a great success.  Everyone went home with happy memories, realizing they might have seen a future major league star in person.
