new
quarters,
new purpose
A gala celebration on January
27th. haled the opening of Zip n’
Sort a small, integrated business
whose development further af-
firms Berkshire County Arc’s
leadership in initiating quality ser-
vice to the individuals it serves.
Zip n’ Sort offers competi
tive employment opportunities
for individuals requiring an addi-
tional transitional step to commu-
nity employment.
According to David Staples,
Program Director, Zip n’ Sort is
a total mailing service specializ-
ing in custom compilations, “per-
forming manual operations that
allow us to assemble complete
training manuals, production
books, booklets, loose-leaf bind-
ers and special document name
comparisons.”
“The prevailing belief,”
Staples continued, “is that ma-
chines replace people, but that |

doesn’t happen here. Instead we
use machines to increase the pro-
ductivity of our workers, per-
forming the purely mechanical
tasks like folding, for instance.
Then our workers do the jobs no |
machine can, dealing with odd-
shaped pieces, double sealing
or grommeting for instance.”
