8th Annual Golf Tournament

     Amazingly, the dubious seven-year record of rain for this tournament was broken as the day offered nothing less than perfect golfing weather!! Sunshine, Sunshine, Sunshine helped contribute to the enthusiasm of the golfers, BCARC volunteers, Civitan, and Berkshire Hills Country Club volunteers. These volunteers kept the golfers happy, well-fed and cheerful.
     As usual, much credit goes to the BCARC Golf Committee including Co-Chairmen Mike Caritey and Paul Gavrity and members Rick Hawes, Debra Jack, Lisa George, Chris Melski, Sherry Barrie, and Michelle Hayes.
     Thanks to the efforts of all these people and corporations, this year's tournament raised a record $24,500, bringing the eight year total of money raised to $131,000. This money will be used over the coming year for two worthwhile purposes: to supplement the needs of individuals served by Berkshire County Arc and to fund scholarships for six Berkshire County High School seniors who intend to pursue both an education and career in Human Services. This year's winners were: Jennifer Allard and Emily Sullivan of Drury High School, Laura Pigott and Kate Phillips of Taconic

High School, Molly Hicks of Monument Mountain High School and Elise Naveneti of Lee High School. This brings a total of $15,500 over the last five years.
     To be sure the money is used to the greatest benefit of BCARC individuals, the Allocations Committee members, Laura Baran, Chairperson, Joe Testa, Chris Melski, Barbara Pastie, Irene Morrison and Carol Craighead spend many hours carefully considering spending requests.
     This year's Golf Tournament was a complete success and surely the sunshine didn't hurt. It is not too early to start wishing for sunshine next year!!

     Approximately 220 golfers in both morning and afternoon flights teed off at the eighth annual  BCARC Classic Golf Tournament at the Berkshire Hills Country Club on May 23rd. Gold Sponsors for this event were Health New England and Gallub & Casey Insurance Services. Silver Sponsors were Berkshire Bank and UNICO. Family Sports Physical Therapy Plus, PC; George Apkin & Sons, Inc.; and M.J. Gordon Company Inc. were bronze sponsors.
