Right now there are people who are trying very hard to change the name of the Department of Mental Retardation to the Department of Developmental Services. I agree with what these people are doing, and I hope that the name is changed soon.
     People with disabilities do not like the word “retarded”. We shouldn’t be called retarded. It doesn’t make me feel happy; it makes me feel angry.
     If you agree with me and the others who are trying to change the name of DMR, you should write letters to your Legislators telling them how you feel. You can also talk to someone at Massachusetts Advocates Standing Strong, M.A.S.S., who can tell you other ways of advocating for this change.
