This issue I would like to talk about a fun part of self-advocacy, which is our “Chance to Dance”. This dance is a fundraising event that we hold for the Berkshire and Southern Berkshire Self-Advocates one time each month. The dances are held at the BCARC Training Room in Dalton. At the dances people come to listen to music, dance and see their friends. The dances are open for anyone in the community who wants to come. We have a lot of |

fun with our friends and members of the self-advocacy groups. Long time members of the groups often volunteer their time to work at the dances. Sometimes we have theme dances like a Luau or a Shamrock Dance at St. Patrick’s Day. Most of the time we just have our regular “Chance to Dance”. Whether there is a theme or not, anyone can request songs for the DJ to play, and can even bring cd’s of their own with them to play for everyone. |

Recently a group from Berkshire County Arc attended a special evening at Wahconah Park to watch the Pittsfield Dukes take on the Danbury Westerners. The group enjoyed a picnic dinner of hot dogs and hamburgers before the game and had an evening filled with enjoying the game. |
